hello everyone, I am Gretchen, homeschooling Christian mom living with lower back pain (L3 herniation), panic/anxiety, depression, prediabetes, psoriasis and a meriad of other ailments, but blessed to be alive and able to praise God.
I have used Sonlight curriculum and found that with being sick it really is essential to have all the planning done, and done so well, for me. My oldest is 10, but she already does most of her work on her own, and I just check it, so it's very student friendly that way. I just add some supplemental things to her list of things to do and we're good to go - no grading, no teacher prep.
Great article over at http://thehomeschoolclassroom.blogspot.com with tips for homeschooling moms with chronic illness. Am also sending out a twitter post Monday that says (see below) If you Tweet or are on Facebook pass it along so we can reach more moms. Thanks, friends!
Are you a homeschooler w/ a chronic illness? Rest Ministries has great Christian support for women who "do it all" at http://ow.ly/2CUP

Hi, I have been looking for a place like this for some time!! I have homeschooled my 13 year old son since day one. I have intractable daily migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, EBV, deg. joint disease, interstitial cystitis ,arthritis in my back and hip and sleep apnea- just to name a few. I would love to hear from others on how they deal with daily severe chronic pain and homeschool, clean the house, cook...... I am now looking for any ideas of curriculum where it is more student paced. Has anyone used any of the online curriculum where they do all the grading and stuff?

Hi Julia and welcome to "Beyond Surviving Homeschool"! Sorry you had to join us because of illness, but you have found others here who understand the challenges of homeschooling with illness. If you need any thing from this group or our sister groups at:

Hi. I'm a hs mom to a 5 & 7 y.o., and I was recently (FINALLY!) diagnosed with CFS. I was wondering where are the others who do hs and struggle with such a challenge, b/c I'm sure there are some. Well, here you are! I look forward to the sharing of ideas and encouragement here. I'm already encouraged to read of struggles with starting in the AM, or trying to make it through the day. And the guilt. It's good just to know other people share my struggles.

Welcome! I hope you can find encouragement here, and if necessary help with any problems. I've been hs for 11 years with 3 daughters. They are all good helpers, and it is a blessing to have them. My husband is a big help, though he gets discouraged and tends to see the glass as 1/2 empty. He is very much afraid of what lupus has done to me the past 14 years, though I think I've gotten off pretty easy without any kidney problems.
I am a mother of 5 (ages 18-4). I am currently homeschooling 4. I have been suffering with chronic pain (back) for several years, as well as, fibromyalgia. Some days are pretty good. Some days are not good at all. We are in our 12th year of hs, so we have the routine down fairly well. My kids are very supportive of me and extremely good about taking care of things, if I need them too. My 18 yr. old son is living on his own. My 15 yr. old son is a huge help. I have a 10 yr, old daughter, a 7 yr. old son and a 4 year old daughter. They are all very understandable. My husband is a huge help, as well. He is very supportive, so I am extremely blessed by God. I would like to join this blog, if I may. Thank you Kelly
I've have Sjogren's Syndrome, Lupus, RA, and hypothyroidism for 8+ years, adn I've been homeschooling my three kids since the beginning (ages 10, 8. and 7). Right now I'm in a huge flare, and I'm looking for support and encouragement to make it.
